Electrical Technology

Skilled electricians are needed to perform work in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. Students in this program will learn to install, operate, maintain and repair electrical systems to National Electric Code standards, design circuit diagrams, and blueprint reading will be key components. Students will gain valuable experience wiring transformers, installing devices/fixtures, installing service entrances, and bending conduit resulting in a solid background to working in the electrical field.

Skills Learned:

Students will be able to perform and demonstrate competencies in the following areas; Electrical safety and care, proper use of hand and power tools, understand the nature of electricity, application of OHMS law, residential and commercial wiring, electrical circuitry and troubleshooting, motor control wiring, National Electrical Code (NEC) compliance, blueprint reading and interpretation, conduit installation and techniques, and telecommunications wiring and systems.

Related Occupations and Earnings:

Related occupations include residential electricians, mine electricians, industrial electrician, commercial electrician, wiring specialist, cable technicians, lineman, substation technician, telephone technician, electrical inspector, and building maintenance. Earnings vary, Entry level pay is $12-$24/hour.

Post-Secondary Opportunities:

Articulated credits can be earned toward a College Degree at local universities and institutions.
