Automotive Collision Repair Technology

Automotive Collision students will learn the skills needed to repair, reconstruct, and refinish damaged vehicles. In both body shop and classroom settings, students will learn to repair vehicles to pre-accident conditions. Students will also learn/practice safety standards of the automobile industry. They will have the opportunity to work with frame straightening equipment, complete car panel replacement/alignment, and perform refinishing in a spray booth, using industry standard paints. Students will also practice customer service skills, writing estimates and perform pre and post scans of vehicles.

Skills Learned:

Some of the skills a student will be able to perform are metal straightening, MIG welding, preparation of surfaces, panel refinishing, glass installation, and computer based estimating.

Related Occupations and Earnings:

Related occupations include Auto Collision Technicians, Refinishers, Detailers, Industrial Painting, Marine and Aviation Painting. Earnings range between $13-$22/hour.

Post-Secondary Opportunities:

Articulated credits can be earned toward an Associate’s Degree at Institutions such as Pennsylvania College of Technology, Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics, and Rosedale Technical College.
