The National FFA OrganizationThe Student Horticulture Association is a chapter of the National Future Farmers of America (FFA) organization. We are also a chapter of the PA FFA.
Our local chapter is involved in developing skills and careers in Landscape design and Construction, Greenhouse management, and Floral designs along with all aspects of owning a small business venture. Community involvement and leadership training is practiced through volunteering our services to community projects such as erosion control practices on the CWCTC properties, organizing and implementing elementary and junior high class horticulture programs with hands on experience for the students. Our students teach horticulture using different stations of activities to introduce plants and landscape industry ideas.
We have also worked with special needs students and geared teaching programs for them that also introduce horticulture and landscape options.
Many landscape and floral designs have been created according to customer specifications for charity events and community projects.
Specialty plant materials have been grown and maintained in our greenhouses which have been utilized in our donated projects.
Because of the FFA projects created and implemented many job opportunities have arisen that are now available to our students.Norwin High School, Early Childhood Outdoor Classroom Project, October 2005.Westmoreland County Fair Queen, Christine Potts, Mount Pleasant, Class of 2007.Fresh Arrangement, spring theme, carnations and asters.
