Heating and Air Conditioning

Course Description

The heating and air conditioning field is a two, three, or four year competency based program, which affords many opportunities to those interested in designing, selling, manufacturing, installing and servicing its equipment. There is an increasing demand for people who are willing to become proficient in any or all of those areas.

The Manpower Survey Report published by the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute, (A.R.I), estimated that for every one million units of installed equipment, the following personnel are needed. 1 graduate engineer, 2 salespeople, 2 technicians/master mechanics, 11 refrigeration, air conditioning & heating mechanics, 7 sheet metal mechanics, and 1 sheet metal helper

The heating and air conditioning students begin with basic projects such as duct work and sheet metal fittings. Students also learn the basic electricity necessary for heating and air conditioning installation and repair.

Included in the C.W.C.T.C. program is sizing, layout and installation of electric, gas and oil fired systems. Training includes wiring, plumbing, refrigeration piping and the sheet metal fabrication necessary to complete an entire heating & air conditioning installation. Troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of heating, cooling, and air handling for qualified workers. Households, apartments, factories, schools, hospitals and offices require the services of HVAC. technicians for repair and replacement of existing equipment and new installations.

As technicians in training, students will develop their skills on "live" equipment as well as on improving customer relations. Students can excel in the heating and air conditioning field if they, desire to work in a challenging field, have disciplined themselves to work, wish to further their education in a growing industry, want to earn above average wages, take pride in their workmanship, have the mental and mechanical abilities.

This is a course with endless opportunities that includes researching and keeping abreast of new equipment and installation techniques as the industry continues to change and grow.
