Career Development

Course Description

Career Development is designed to educate students who are looking for an alternative to the traditional education system already in place. A growing number of students have a negative view of the educational process and are in need of a more flexible system tailored to instill a spirit of confidence in them.

The program provideds 9th grade students wil the opportunity to explore several vocational programs, overcome academic barriers, raise academic levels, and increase self-esteem.

Students will attend CWCTC all day. The schedule is deisgned for students to participate in vocational exploration one-half day and academic courses the other half-day. Academic courses consist of English, science, social studies, and math. The students will chose one of the 25 vocational programs offered at CWCTC and will spend time exploring that skills. At the conclusion of the year, students will receive one credit for the successful completion of each academic subject and four credits for the completion of the vocational exploration.


Grading Procedures

Percentages are calculated based on points earned out of points possible. Points are earned from tests, quizzes, assignments, homework, projects, and a daily grade.


Units of Study

Academic courses include math, English, science and social studies. Math consists of Pre-Algebra, Algebra, or Geometry. The English, science, and social studies courses meet general 9th grade requirements.

Additional Skills

Organization, study skills, increased student responsibility for schoolwork and attendance are emphasized. All projects and lessons are geared to meet these goals.

Guidance Services

CWCTC guidance counselors, St. Vincent Prevention counselors, Teen Issue presentations, and small groups provide services. The student will also participate in various career awareness activities.


Requirements

To pass the course students must receive above a 70% and have good attendance.


Skills You Will Learn

Organization, responsibility for school work, St. Vincent Presentation Projects present a lesson each week on different issues, improve school attendance, improve desire to succeed in school.
