FCCLA: The Ultimate Learning Experience is a dynamic and effective national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences Education. FCCLA has more than 225,000 members. The organization has involved more than ten million youth since its founding in 1945.

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is unique among youth organizations because its programs are planned and conducted by members. It is the only career and technical in-school student organization with the family as its central focus. Participation in national programs and chapter activities helps members become strong leaders in their families, careers and communities.

Chapter projects focus on a variety of youth concerns, including youth safety, family relationships, financial literacy, peer pressure, community service, nutrition and fitness, youth violence and career exploration.

Involvement in FCCLA offers member the opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills for life-planning, goal setting, problem solving, decision making, and interpersonal communication-necessary in the home and workplace.

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is a national organization of students who have taken or are taking a course in Family and COnsumer Sciences Education. FCCLA is one of the eight national career and technical student organizations.

Focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner, and community leader, members develop skills through character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge and career preparation.

FCCLA PM Chapter - CWCTC

 

Colby Hunter in grade 11 from Mount Pleasant and Rebecca Hilty a senior from Jeannette will be attending the 2008 National Leadership Meeting/ Competition along with their FCCLA advisor, Ms. Christie R. Parks during the week of July 11 – 18 in Orlando, Florida.

STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) are competitive events in which members are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills and occupational preparation. STAR Events offers individual skill development through the following: Cooperative--teams work to accomplish specific goals; individualized--members work alone to accomplish specific goals; and competitive--individual or team performance measured by an established set of criteria. There are currently 17 different Pennsylvania STAR Events in which members may participate. 

STAR Events:

To compete in the 2008 National STAR Events, members must have FCCLA national dues postmarked to FCCLA National Headquarters by March 1, 2008 and participant registrations are due from State Advisers to FCCLA national headquarters by May 1, 2008.

SKILLS IN NATIONAL COMPETITION

 

Orlando, FL. – Rebecca Hilty and Colby Hunter, Culinary Arts students at Central Westmoreland Career & Technology Center (CWCTC) in New Stanton, PA recently participated in the STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) Events at Family, Career and Community Leaders of America’s (FCCLA) 2008 National Leadership Meeting.

Rebecca, who is a 2008 graduate of CWCTC and Jeannette High school and Colby a senior at CWCTC also attends Mt. Pleasant High school both received Gold medals in the Hospitality category one of 16 national STAR Events available to FCCLA students

Culinary Scholarships will be offered by Johnson and Wales and the Culinary Institute of America.
