Blood Drive

Once again the Red Cross sponsored the annual blood drive here at the Central Westmoreland Career and Technology Center. This year we collected over 130 units of blood for use in local and federal hospitals. This year was our best year as we had to extend it to three days instead of the usual two. The eight donation stations were busy all day long in the Health Assistants shop area. The students of the shop were busy escorting the donors to their chairs. But Health Assistants wasn't the only shop to become involved.

Setting up the work area for The Red Cross was the responsibility of the Warehousing shop. They assembled beds, rearranged the Health Assistants shop, and reworked desks and chairs until it was workable. Food was provided to the volunteers and donors by the Food Services shop.

Next year the blood drive will be held in the main hallway to provide more space for the volunteers to work. The current 8 beds will be expanded to 12 beds allowing more donors to be completed on time. Many volunteers are not included because of space limitations. These added beds will allow many more donors to provide, without clogging the Health Assistants shop.
